An Annual Tradition that Began a Revolution
Having accomplished its objectives of getting more people on bicycles and into Knoxville’s older neighborhoods in the downtown area, the Neighborhood Bike Ride is being retired. When it began in 2001, there were few group rides offered in the region for casual and beginner bicyclists. Now, there are bike rides offered nearly every day of the year, for casual bicyclists as well as every other type of bicyclist. The Neighborhood Bike Ride played an important role in developing Knoxville’s bike culture, but it no longer plays the role it did in the past. But you can relive the fun of all the rides with these photos, posters, and route maps.
